BACKGROUND
HIV, AIDS, poverty, poor
economies, malaria
and famines bring
devastation to many
lives in Africa. Life expectancies can be low, orphans are many, and
medicines and medical care
are often scarce – so the future can look bleak.
THE CHURCH
Disciples International Church is a group of 9 fellowships with a base in
Kafue, Zambia, 30 miles south of the capital, Lusaka. Their Senior Pastor,
Henry Kashweka, has a vision to bring practical help to those affected through
their community project, “Village Nazareth”.
THE VISION
Their
vision is to build and run a medical clinic for a town that is pitifully
under-resourced, providing basic in-patient and out-patient care for the
residents of both the town and rural areas.
There
are about 3000 orphans in Kafue. Disciples International plan to build 10
orphanage homes, each with individual house parents, to raise up to 80 orphans
and dumped babies. In time it is hoped to build a primary school, as half of
the population receive no formal education. Alongside all this, the church
continues to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to all.
CURRENT STATUS:
THE
CLINIC
The clinic, 12 metres x 22
metres, has been constructed with the help of a youth group from Worthing,
England. The interior now waits to be completed, furnished and equipped,
before becoming operational. A retired doctor has already volunteered to serve
in the clinic.
ORPHANAGE HOUSES

Two
houses have already been built and finished internally. A third is under
construction.
On 6th
August 2004, the first two orphan babies, Inambao and Webster, were welcomed
to their new home. Another baby, Mark, was brought in on 11th
August.
Grace Mumauga is the lady caring for them.
THE NEED
The
problems the church and country face are vast; their resources miniscule.
They need prayer that God might help to fulfil this vision. They also need
financial help. Monetary gifts are desperately needed and would be gratefully
received to enable the church to complete the project and to continue to run
the ministries. If you do wish to donate towards this cause, please make
cheques payable to ‘Worthing Tabernacle’, with the word ‘Orphanage’ on
the reverse, and send them to us at the address below. (If you are a tax
payer, please send us your address and we will send you a Gift-Aid form to
increase the amount by about 28% at current rates.) We can assure you that all
the money donated will be sent without deduction for admin or bank transfer
costs/charges.
There are also
opportunities for churches to send teams to assist in construction and development
– please either contact Pastor Henry direct, or, alternatively
get-in-touch
with us and we will pass
your interest to Pastor Henry.
